The PSW654-8MK is the higher-capacity version of the 9,000 lb 12V worm gear winch — 12,500 lb pulling capacity from the same 1.5 HP motor by way of a deeper 728.5:1 gear reduction. The trade-off is line speed: 9 fpm versus 14 fpm on the standard 470:1 version. Compact 8 in drum.

How does the higher gear ratio give more pulling capacity?

Mechanical advantage. The 728.5:1 reduction trades line speed for torque at the drum — the motor turns more times per foot of rope pulled, so each pound of motor output multiplies into more pounds of pulling force. Same motor, same wiring, same brake, just a different gear ratio inside the housing.
