Pick the HGK kit when the worm drive gear is worn — replacing both at once is faster and cheaper than two separate installs. Pick the bare HSW motor when your existing gear is in good shape and you only need the motor. If you're not sure which is worn, inspect the gear teeth: pitting, cracks, or wear flats mean replace; clean teeth and no measurable wear mean reuse.
