Why use a roller guide instead of a fairlead?
Roller guides win for off-axis pulls where the rope angle relative to the drum changes during the pull. Each roller pivots independently, so the rope rides smoothly over the rollers regardless of pull direction. A flat fairlead is simpler and cheaper but only handles narrow-angle pulls cleanly. For recovery work where the load isn't always straight in front of the winch, the roller guide is the right answer.
