The Bucher PM-3554-0131 2-Way Bale Spear HPU is a 12V double-acting hydraulic power unit with a 3-quart steel reservoir — the same pump that ships inside our gooseneck and bolt-in bale spears. The steel tank handles ranch life better than poly, and the 2-way circuit drives the spear cylinder both up and down.

Why does the bale spear use a steel reservoir instead of poly?

Ranch trucks live outside year-round and get loaded with everything from hay strings to fence wire. Steel survives cab corner impacts and stray tools that would crack a poly tank. The trade-off is weight — a few pounds heavier — but the durability is worth it on a working spear.
