Pierce ABS1K Bale Spike Installation Overview

Install the PIERCE ABS1K bale spike with these easy instructions. This article is an overview transcript of the PIERCE hydraulic bale spear installation process. Read on for instructions and watch the how-to video below.

PIERCE ABS1K and ABS3K Hydraulic Bale Spike Installation Overview:

Step 1 – Remove the tailgate.

Step 2 – Choose your mounting option: single collar or double collar. Today we are using a double collar.

Step 3 – Secure the collar with the 3/4” bolts using a 1 1/8” wrench. The location of the collar can be adjusted as needed.

Step 4 – Lift the bale spike using an overhead chain hoist.

Step 5 – Attach the bale spike to the 2 5/16” gooseneck ball. Adjust to fit the bed and collar.

Step 6 – The CPO77K remote is pre-wired to the pump and can be threaded through the rear cab window. A wireless remote can eliminate this step. The electrical connections include a positive and negative wire to the battery. We used PIERCE quick connects to make this process simple. Quick connects are pre-installed to the pump. A twin connect is installed to the battery.

Step 7 – Add the 150 amp breaker in-line on the positive side.

Step 8 – Lastly, add the two bale spears using the two provided pins.

Now you’re ready to haul hay to your hungry herd!
